Squid Lamp - Original Sculptural Lighting
Squid Lamp, Original Sculptural Lighting
One-of-a-Kind Functional Sculpture by Bobby Anderson, RVA246
Squid Lamp was designed to create its own ocean wherever it lives.
Made from reclaimed materials, including a retired shovel, gears, and architectural salvage replete with legacy paint and patina, Squid ultimately surfaced as a trophy commission for a national organization.
Its large glass-marble eyes give the creature an immediate personality, but the transformation really happens when the light comes on. Illumination radiates from inside the sculpture through the top, mouth, and marble eyes, producing a cascade of flowing shadows and glowing currents across the surrounding space.

Its Own Little Ocean
Squid began with objects carrying the marks of their previous lives. Rather than hiding those histories, the sculpture uses them. Worn paint, aged metal, mechanical forms, and salvaged architectural elements become anatomy, texture, and character.
When illuminated, those solid materials create something unexpectedly fluid. Light escapes through the sculpture, shadows stretch across nearby surfaces, and Squid seems to bring a small underwater world along with it.
Part creature, part light source, and entirely singular, Squid turns reclaimed materials into an environment as much as an object.
There is only one Squid Lamp.
