Howdy’s Hopper

Original Sculptural Lighting by Bobby Anderson, RVA246

There’s only one thing Howdy loves more than greeting newcomers to his part of the galaxy, and that’s his hopper, Happy.

Happy is a bipedal alien lamp bug built to light up nighttime deskscapes. His head and tail both glow, and vintage glass marbles carry the light across his face and body. When more light is needed, Happy can lift his tail and connect it to the magnetic saddleback, throwing light outward in a completely different direction.

Howdy can dismount and stand beside his trusty steed, turning the piece from a single character into a small scene.

Like Howdy says, “Nothing is better than helping out a stranger. The stranger, the better.”

The Stranger, the Better

Howdy’s Hopper is part lamp, part creature, and part miniature adventure.

The removable rider, movable tail light, glowing marbles, and expressive stance make the piece feel unusually alive for its size. It works as functional lighting, but the real pleasure is in the relationship between Howdy and Happy, two odd little travelers built to help wherever they land.

There is only one Howdy’s Hopper.
