Bobby Anderson Metal Art Coming to the National Metal Museum

Beginning September 5, 2026, selected metal art by Bobby Anderson, the Memphis artist behind RVA246, will be displayed and available for purchase at the National Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.

This is a meaningful milestone for me as an artist.

The National Metal Museum is a rare and important institution. It is devoted to the beauty, craft, history, and future of fine metalwork. The museum’s exhibitions highlight both emerging and established metal artists, and its permanent collection focuses on metal artists and artworks from the post-Craft Revival period to the present. For my reclaimed metal work to be shown and sold in that context feels deeply affirming.

What Will Be Available

The pieces available through the National Metal Museum will focus on my reclaimed metal art practice, including one-of-one sculptural robot lamps made from reclaimed and vintage metal parts as well as select Helper Bots, small functional sculptures designed to hold phones, pens, notes, and everyday objects.

Many of my sculptural lamps are poseable, with movable heads, arms, hands, shields, tools, or other expressive parts. They are made to be lived with, adjusted, noticed, and enjoyed from more than one angle.

Some pieces also include functional surprises, including hidden compartments, removable accessories, object holders, clever engineering details, and small discoveries that reward a closer look.

The fun is not only in what the work looks like. It is in what it does, what it used to be, and what it has become.
